3 Methodology 3.1 Introduction This chapter presents the participants, instruments, procedure for this study. It is an experimental study that investigates the relationship between field dependent/independent learning styles and narrative writings in an EFL context. 4.1 Participants The participants in this study were 30 students both males and females majoring in TEFL and literature studying at the Faculty of Letters and Humanities at the Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Iran, participated in this investigation. The participants were selected from 70 students between the ages of 19 and 32 who were screened by applying a language proficiency test. Using (Mean+ SD and Mean– SD) formulas, about 30 students whose scores fall between (16) to (37) out of (40) were selected as the homogeneous sample as regards English proficiency. Out of a total of participants who complete the learning style questionnaire, two groups of Iranian EFL learners were chosen to investigate the relationship between their learning styles (field dependence/ independence) and narrative writing. FD group FI group consisted of 14 and 16 students respectively.
